Law Enforcement Jiu Jitsu.

Law Enforcement Jiu Jitsu is created and led by Professor Alberto Alvarez. He is a Second-

Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under the Owner and Operator of Rio Combat Team

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Fourth-Degree Black Belt Professor Diogo Gomes. Alberto has been a police

officer with BART PD for over 20 years. He began his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training in October of

2005. Alberto is retired with the title of Senior Advance Officer with an Advanced POST

Certificate. Additionally, he was a POST certified instructor in defensive tactics and impact

weapons with multiple recertifications throughout his career. He was instrumental with bringing

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to his agency. Alberto has been a part of many situations that he de-escalated

with the use of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu while alone and in tandem. He has written lesson plans, many

police reports regarding use of force, and knows the value of narrating for body worn cameras

while using force.

Law Enforcement Jiu Jitsu is a law enforcement training course focusing on self-defense and

control by Rio Combat Team Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  The course will cover 35 lessons essential to

self-defense and controlling resistive / combative individuals in real world situations.  A

certificate of completion will be earned after completing:

 The 35-lesson course,

 100 hours of verifiable training, and

 Successful demonstration of proficiency through continuous evaluations of reflexive

drills and guided sparring within a 16-month period from the original start date.

The curriculum will be taught in a law enforcement perspective (i.e.: commands, de-escalation,

mindset, communication, etc.). Additional training is encouraged. Adult Fundamentals and

Open Mat classes are available upon completion of Law Enforcement Jiu Jitsu course and

instructors’ approval. Time spent in these training sessions are applicable to the 100 hours.

The class will be for law enforcement professionals. All ranks and classifications of law

enforcement personnel are eligible to enroll. Classes will be conducted in a Jiu Jitsu uniform.

Classes will be available four days a week and at 1.5 hours at a time. The curriculum must be

completed within the 16-month period. The period begins when the professional takes their first

class.

Class will be available Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 0845 hrs. – 1015 hrs., and Saturday from

0700 – 0830 hrs. Tuition for the 16-month course for Law Enforcement Jiu Jitsu is $2,000.00

and is to be paid upon beginning. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Uniform, Rash Guard, and Grappling Shorts

can be purchased at www.riocombat.com. Additional equipment are as follows: A water bottle,

sandals, athletic tape, towel, mouthpiece, and athletic protection (male / female). Satisfaction is

guaranteed or your money back. If you are not satisfied for any reason by the 15 th day from

enrollment, your tuition will be returned to you, and you will be excused from the course.
